Small structures: a review of in vivo neuroimaging: fluorescence imaging for intraoperative neuroprotection

During the operation of

the nerve was transected or injured accidentally which led to the decline or even permanent loss of some patients' activity function. Current neuroimaging methods such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) computed tomography (CT) high-resolution ultrasound (US) can not provide real-time guidance for surgeons. In the past intraoperative nerve recognition mainly depends on the clinical experience of surgeons. In recent years fluorescence imaging technology makes it possible to directly visualize the special structure of the surgical site. This technology helps to identify the nerves in the process of surgery achieve accurate resection avoid key nerve injury. Therefore the importance of intraoperative nerve visualization is self-evident. Although there are clear medical needs it is particularly difficult to specifically target nerve fibers due to the complex structure characteristics of peripheral nerve fibers (vascular nerve barrier). Therefore great efforts are still needed to promote the clinical transformation of in vivo fluorescence neuroimaging technology.

based on this Professor Zhang Fan's team of Fudan University systematically discussed summarized the fluorescent neuroimaging technology published the related review paper
